Concert Choir 2BISMARCK, ND – The University of Mary Vocal Arts Ensemble, under the direction of Katherine Henjum will present “Nordic Song,” a program of Norwegian folk songs and songs of Edvard Grieg.

The concert, to take place on Sunday, September 25 at 2 p.m. at the North Dakota Heritage Center & State Museum in Bismarck, is part of the State Historical Society of North Dakota’s Sensational Sundays program.

Therese Kulas, soprano (East Grand Forks, MN) and Cole Girodat, tenor, (Kindred, ND), junior vocal performance majors at the University of Mary, will sing the entire program in Norwegian.

Concert Choir 1“The Norwegian language is a beautiful, melodic language to sing, and Grieg has a profound, deeply touching way of bringing to life through song the qualities of love, nature and the Norwegian landscape,” said Henjum. “The students have loved working on the Norwegian songs. It isn’t everyday you hear the songs of Grieg, and to have the opportunity to perform them has been an enriching experience for them.”

Sensational Sundays are free programs sponsored by the State Historical Society that include a variety of lectures, concerts, movies, and tours that provide engaging, educational, historic, and cultural information.
