BISMARCK, ND — The University of Mary Concert Choir, Vocal Jazz and Chamber Choir will present their annual Spring Concert on Sunday, April 10, at 3 p.m., in Our Lady of the Annunciation Chapel at the University of Mary. The concert is free and open to the public.

“A unique feature we’ve added recently is the addition of student-directed chamber choirs,” Dr. Tom Porter, chair of the University of Mary Department of Music and director of choirs, said.

Concert Choir 1“Seven student conductors are responsible for selecting music for their ensemble and rehearsing the ensemble in preparation for the concert,” Porter added. “It is a wonderful opportunity for the choir members to sing in smaller groups, and for the conductors to practice their rehearsal and conducting skills in preparation for their careers in music.”

Porter says the audience can expect an eclectic music variety — from renaissance to contemporary — including a beautiful piece performed in the round.

The Concert Choir, an 80-voice ensemble with students from 12 states, will perform a variety of choral standards from the poignant Renaissance motet, “Super flumina Babylonis,” to an adaptation of a Swedish polka, “Nordic Polska.” The group recently performed for the North Dakota Music Educators Association (NDMEA).
