BISMARCK, NDGenevieve Say of Napa, CA, was recognized with the University of Mary Alumni Association’s Outstanding Senior Award for 2018 at the university’s annual President’s Recognition Luncheon Saturday, April 28.

Say is majoring in social work with minors is philosophy and theology. She has earned several honors and awards during her time at the University of Mary, to include: the Presidential Scholarship; TRIO Elite Award; Footprint Award; St. Catherine’s Medal from Kappa Gamma Pi; Senator of the Year, Who’s Who Among Students in Universities and Colleges; and Student Nurses’ Day Award. Say’s involvement in activities and organizations on and off campus are wide ranging: Kappa Gamma Pi, Bismarck Physicians Guild, Catholic Council Network, World Youth Alliance, Omicron Delta Kappa, Residence Assistant, Chapel Choir, Student Government; Emerging Leaders Academy.

She is the daughter of Geoffrey and Christina Say of Napa.

“Genny chose the University of Mary because she desired to grow in an enriching environment,” said her nominating faculty member. “She has maintained this commitment to the Benedictine values and been an example of the value of service. Involved in a wide array of campus organizations and activities, she is the current student government president and a member of the Emerging Leaders Academy. She brings a kind and welcoming presence to her role as a residence director and has volunteered to work with youth to assist in faith development, taught English in Kazakhstan, and also works as a CNA in a nursing home. Academically gifted and high achieving, she has helped develop social work ethics training for professionals, showing high drive and initiative. She constantly seeks out new learning opportunities, setting a high bar for herself and as a role model to her peers. She says that ‘the University of Mary points toward what is good by truly embodying what is good, to build seekers of the truth.’”

Each year, the teaching faculty at the University of Mary nominates members of the graduating class for this prestigious award, based on their academic achievement, service to the university and to the community. The Alumni Council Board then selects the recipient from these nominees.
