BISMARCK, ND — The Bismarck-Mandan Chamber EDC committee announced Wednesday that University of Mary Assistant Professor of Communications, Amy Hollar, is the recipient of the 2019 Outstanding Teacher of the Year for Higher Education award. The Chamber’s commitment to excellence in education can be clearly identified through its ongoing effort to identify and honor educators from the Bismarck-Mandan education institutions.

Hollar began her time at the University of Mary as a student in 1996. There she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in communications, with an emphasis in public relations and a minor in English. During her time at Mary, she has been awarded several distinguished honors, including the University of Mary Outstanding Senior Award.  She acquired a master’s of arts degree from University of Nevada, where she also taught communication course, along with Marquette University.

“Amy Hollar is a beloved teacher and dedicated to each student who crosses her path,” stated Dr. David Fleischacker, dean of the School of Arts and Sciences at the University of Mary. “She coaches and mentors students with an abiding care and talent that shows results in the affections those students have for her and for the excellence they then exhibit when they enter the workforce. Her dedication to teaching and helping students manifests in the respect she has gained from her peers and her supervisors. I congratulate her on this deserved award.”

THE OUTSTANDING TEACHER OF THE YEAR is an annual award designed to honor an outstanding educator in higher education that encourages community members to nominate a teacher who has positively affected their life, or the lives of others. Criteria considered when selecting the recipient are:

1) They must have been employed with their present institution for the past three years

2) Their achievements, accomplishments and awards in their field of education

3) Contributions made within their profession, and

4) Community involvement

The Outstanding Teacher of the Year Award is an annual award. Each year, community members nominate a teacher who has positively affected their life, or the lives of others, to receive the top honor in three categories – elementary, secondary and post-secondary education.
